The
first race of the season for the Corvette Challenge was March 22, 2003 and
featured The Vette Doctors Quick 4 for the four fastest
qualifiers. There were over 100 Corvette racers in the field.
The Vette Doctors Quick 4 finalists were: No. 1 - Keith
Brownlee with his time of 9.802. No. 2 was Carmen Melillo (co-owner of The
Vette Doctors) with a 10.429. The No. 3 qualifier was Kenny Sforza
with a 10.55 in The Vette Doctors prepared 346 cid heads and
cam C5 with a 150 shot of Nitrous Oxide, and the No. 4 final qualifier was
Tommy Michalkowski of Anger Management Racing with a 10.99.
Carmen and Kenny paired up first and Carmen ran an Outstanding
10.085/136 to Kenny's 10.641/133. Next was Keith pairing up against
Tommy and Keith ran a 11.587/135 to Tommy's 11.773/128.
The final pitted Keith and Carmen and Keith took it with a
9.764/138 to Carmen's 10.828/108 as he got loose and had to get out of it.
This was the first time out with the new set-up for Carmen (best et
10.085, best mph 142) and Kenny (10.4/135).
